My second grade class laughed at a story I wrote about a book that comes to life and wants sushi — since then I’ve been hooked to all that writing can do.
Matt learned the foundations of journalism as a student reporter for The Northern Light, the student newspaper at University of Alaska, Anchorage. He finished his senior year as Managing Editor, accepted a national award on behalf of the paper, and saw several of his stories picked up by ESPN and The New York Times. Based on his work as a college journalist, The Anchorage Press hired him as an Arts Reporter. Over three years, Matt wrote hundreds of articles on local exhibitions, artists, and musicians, as well as reviews of operas, plays, movies, albums, and books.
He moved to New York to intern with The Paris Review, then worked in content and product marketing for several software companies. While completing a Masters of Fine Arts in the prestigious Creative Writing Department of Hunter College, Matt wrote forewords to the classics imprint of Shakespeare & Co., co-wrote or ghostwrote several memoirs, and wrote over 300 summaries for SuperSummary.com.
After completing the MFA and earning a publishing certificate from Columbia University, Matt entered financial consulting as an editor for Blue Heron Research Partners. He left as a Senior Editor & Researcher to join Lehman College as a CCE (tenure) track Lecturer in Professional Writing. Matt maintains a daily interest in the world of business.
